Introduction
The Rise of the Instant-Message Generation and the Internet's Impact on Friendships and Family Relationships I chose this topic because I began using instant messaging when it was fairly new in the mid to late 90’s and has been a habitual part of my life since. Since the time when I first started using it, the internet and instant messaging has expanded worldwide and become to some, the premier way of communicating with other members of society. Many people think that instant messaging has brought a positive impact on children today because they can more easily maintain relationships and won’t feel shy about expressing their feelings to friends and family through the safety of being behind a computer rather than face to face. Others will argue that it takes away from the personal interactions and kids are missing out on these deep and personal relationships by staying in front of the computer to communicate with people. These days everybody is on the internet, and therefore not everybody who is using it has good intentions while aboard the information superhighway. So these summaries will research how the internet and instant messaging have both provided positive and negative effects on the present generation.
